Policies & Regulations

Attendance

Attendance is recorded each day. Please ensure consistent attendance as much as possible. Continuity is necessary for child's development.

Absences — Please phone when your child cannot attend school.

Colds— Don't send your child to school within 24 hours of a fever or if your child is coughing or vomiting.

Contagious diseases — Let teachers know if your child has been exposed to any contagious diseases. If any symptoms develop, they must not attend school. We will notify parents if children are exposed to such illnesses at school.

School holidays and vacations — We follow closely the schedule adopted by the Katonah-Lewisboro and Somers school system. However, there may be slight differences at times.

Snow days — Please check with news12.com to see the status of closings or delays. If you wish to be notified by email, please send an email to kpkids@optonline.net. If there is a delay, the schedule is as follows:

AM Session: 10:30-12:15
PM Session: 1:15-3:00

Lunch Bunch times remain the same in the event of a delay.

Parents should make definite arrangements for someone to pick up their child in case he/she becomes ill at school when parents are not available.

It is necessary to notify teachers in writing if there is to be any change in your child's arrangements for going home.

Communication

If a child has a difficulty at school, teachers will inform parents. If a child's time at home has been upsetting on a particular day, please les teachers know of this. Since the family provides the most important influence on a child's development, it is important that family and teachers cooperate on all matters. If your child tells of a particular problem at school, please inform the teachers.

Conferences

Teachers will communicate with parents 4 times in the school year regarding their child’s progress. There will be face-to-face conferences in the fall and in the spring. There will also be two additional progress reports, which will allow for parent input. However, if any parent feels the need for a conference at any time, this may be arranged.

Observing Your Child at School

Parents my observe their child's activities at any time.  The door to each classroom has a window and you will not be noticed by children if the hall light is turned off.

Clothing

CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR PLAY CLOTHES.  Rubber soled shoes or sneakers are recommended for the entire school year.  There will be special occasions to dress up.  These will be announced will in advance.

MARK ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING WITH THE CHILD'S NAME.

All articles of clothing should be manageable by your child.

In the winter the sidewalks are cleared, so please do not send your child to school in boots unless you intend for them to be worn for the entire session.  We cannot take off and put on so many boots and shoes.

How Parents Can Help

Once a year, parents will be asked to bring in a healthy snack to share. Fruit, vegetables, cheeses, rice cakes, crackers, applesauce, homemade muffins or plain cookies are some suggestions. Sign-up calendars will be posted on the hall bulletin board. Birthday celebrations are heartily welcomed. Make reservations with the teacher. Please limit the amount of chocolate.

Keep current by reading the monthly newsletters. Know what is going on in school and what your child needs to bring.

Save items requested each month for art activities.

Be PARENT OF THE DAY: Share your special talent with the class, read a story, do a craft. Be creative.

Give your name if you are willing to help out when one of the staff is absent. You may deduct $20 per session from your next month tuition.
